Mary Clothier Named 2017 ABA
Distinguished Service Award Recipient
EACH YEAR the ABA awards the ABA Distinguished Service Award to a compliance professional in recognition and appreciation of his or her outstanding leadership, initiative and accomplishment in banking regulatory compliance management. The award, established
in 1995, was presented at the American Bankers Association’s 31st annual
Regulatory Compliance Conference
in San Diego. The ABA Compliance
Administrative Committee,
composed of 13 leading bank
executives in the compliance industry,
solicits nominations and selects the
honoree. This year, Mary Clothier,
Senior Vice President and Director
of Enterprise Compliance Programs
at Key Bank, received the 2017 ABA
Distinguished Service Award.
Mary’s began her compliance
career as a bank examiner with the
FDIC. She later moved into a senior
bank examiner role with both the
Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In 1998, she joined the banking
industry as chief compliance officer
with Guaranty Bank. Since then, she
has managed compliance and audit
programs for Fifth Third Bank, Wells
Fargo and US Bank.
Mary has authored several articles
for ABA Bank Compliance magazine, taught at the ABA Compliance
School and routinely spoken at
ABA’s Regulatory Compliance Conference and other national events.
She has chaired the ABA Regulatory
Compliance Conference Committee and previously served several
years on the ABA’s Compliance
Administrative Committee and National Compliance Schools Advisory
Board. Mary received a bachelor’s

from the University of New Mexico,
